Swakara and Chinchilla Coat
Fur Coats
Fur coats require the right care to keep them in good shape.

If you are thinking about buying fur coats or other fur outerwear for that special person in your life, you will need to know how to properly care for the fur. Furs require different care than many of the other types of coats you may already own. However, if you take the right steps to care for your fur items, you will be able to prolong their life and keep them looking and feeling like new for longer.

Wear a Silk Scarf

While you wear the fur coat, you are likely going to wear makeup at the same time. Unfortunately, makeup can cause damage to your precious furs. Instead of choosing not to wear makeup, you should wrap a silk scarf around your neck before you put on your fur coat. This will keep the makeup from rubbing off on your furs and keep them looking like new for longer.

Watch Your Perfume

Another common thing for women to wear is perfume. Again, this can be a major problem with luxurious furs. If you spray perfume on yourself and it also is sprayed directly on the furs, it can lead to drying out the leather. When the underlying leather of your coat is dried out, the fur will begin to break off, leaving bare spots. To avoid this issue, it is best to apply your perfume before you put on your furs.

Proper Storage

When you have furs, you also have to pay attention to how you store them. For instance, do not ever store your fur among moth balls as you may with other clothing. The moth balls can adhere to the fur and the smell is virtually impossible to remove. If you will not be wearing your furs for long periods of time, it is better to put them into fur storage with your furrier. While you store them at home between wearing them, keep them out of direct sunlight and give the furs plenty of breathing room in your storage space.

When you have never owned fur coats before, it can be difficult to understand that these coats require different storage than other coats you may have owned. Furs must be properly cared for or they will not last as long and will not maintain their beauty. However, if you follow these precautions, including contacting us when you need professional fur storage, you will enjoy your new furs for many years.
