Considering your desires will help you choose the best furs.

Choosing the right fur for yourself can be an overwhelming decision. There are so many factors that go into choosing the right coat, jacket, stole or other accessory for yourself that you need to take careful consideration before making the investment. Stopping to as yourself a few simple questions will give you the basic direction you want to go with your purchase, allowing you to love your investment for many years to come.

  • Where will you wear your fur? This is one of the most important questions. If it is going to be a coat or jacket, will you wear it everyday to and from work or to go shopping? If not, are you reserving your beautiful coat for special occasions, such as special dinners and cocktail parties? Understanding the exact use of your outerwear will help you pick from the furs that are more durable if they are going to be for everyday use or a more fragile one if it will be used only on special occasions.
  • How long will you wear it? The answer to this question weighs heavily on your decision. If you are purchasing a coat or jacket to wear for only a few years, you can choose a coat that is made from fox or chinchilla, both of which are known to begin to lose hair or discolor after a few years. If you are purchasing your outerwear for long-term use, you might want to look into those that last longer, such as mink or lamb.
  • What color do you desire? This is another important question that depends on the answer to how often you plan to wear it. If it is an item you will wear often, lighter colors, such as those of coyote fur, might not be the best choice. You want to get your coat or accessories cleaned once or twice a year, not more often because of stains. If your jacket will be used for everyday purposes, you are better off choosing darker tan, gray or black colors.
  • What color lining do you desire? This might seem like an odd question, but it plays a major role in your decision as well. A lighter lining will stain easier, making it necessary to bring your fur in for constant cleaning. Choosing a lining that is darker, especially if the coat will be worn often or will be carried a lot, is a better choice to keep it cleaner longer.
