vintage fur coatsIf you’ve ever bought a fur coat before, you know this one fact: your fur coat is an investment! Yet some types of fur coats are far more of an investment than others, particularly where the price tag is concerned. You can generally expect mink fur, for instance, to be more expensive than rabbit fur. Did you know, however, there are many other kinds of fur apparel out there that are even more expensive?

Chinchilla

Those on the hunt for one of the most prestigious types of fur coats out there will be highly interested in chinchilla fur. However, this kind of fur will cost quite a hefty amount; the average chinchilla coat will cost anywhere between $30,000 and $100,000. The reason chinchilla fur apparel is so expensive is largely due to the process used to make it; chinchilla fur is notoriously fragile and must be tended to closely in order to be converted into a coat. However, it is both incredibly warm and light, two traits you typically have to choose between when selecting new fur clothing.

Vicuña

The vicuña is an animal related closely to alpacas and llamas. It also holds the prestige of producing some of the world’s most sought-after types of fur coats. As you may expect, purchasing vicuña fur is no simple feat; the cost measures at $5,000 for each meter of fur. A coat can cost $20,000 at minimum.

Sable

The amount you can expect to pay for a sable coat depends upon its quality. On average, the cost will add up to around $16,000, while the most painstakingly made coats cost $150,000. Its color is part of what makes it so widely admired. It typically comes in a gorgeous shade of silver. On top of this, the quality of the fur is one of a kind, being incredibly smooth and soft to the touch.

Lynx

Lynx fur apparel tends to be rare, which contributes a great deal to its cost on the market. Lynx vintage fur coats cost around $200,000. However, you will receive a product of considerable quality in exchange for its price. Not only is it plush, but its color and pattern is unlike anything you can find on the market.

Of course, there is a much larger variety of expensive types of fur coats out there than what we’ve described here. However, if none of them quite fit into your budget, know you can always turn to us at Morris Kaye & Sons to find apparel that is still high quality but much easier on your wallet.
